1526585 Depositing spacer bands SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 9 July 1976 [10 July 1975] 28668/76 Heading C1M [Also in Division B5] In a process for depositing a spacer band, on a transparent or translucent sheet (e.g. of glass) for making a multiple pane, which has an inner layer with a relatively high concentration of desiccant and an outer layer with little or no desiccant, by simultaneous extrusion to form a closed loop, only the outer layer is extruded on the sheet at the point where the extrusion is started and stopped. The internal layer can also be omitted at other corners. In providing the spacer band the incoming sheet activates detector 29 (Fig. 7) which starts deposition of the external layer and thereafter the internal layer, when the rear edge activates the detector which cuts off the internal layer, if appropriate, or turns the sheet or conveys it off.

(54) MULTILAYER GLAZING WITH INTERMEDIATE LAYOUT

Multi-layer glazing with intermediate gaskets includes at least two sheets 1, separated by a multi-layer plastic cord 2, consisting of an outer layer 3 containing a small amount of desiccant or not containing it at all, and an inner layer 4 containing a large amount of desiccant. The plastic cord 2 contains the ends 5 and 6, which, after laying the cord along the entire contour of the pane, are connected by squeezing.
The process of laying the intermediate cord on the glazing is as follows.
At a sufficient distance from the end of the window glass, approximately 2 cm, begin to extrude the full cord 2, i.e. containing two layers: an outer layer 3 and an inner layer 4. Such a double cord is laid over the entire contour of the pane and as soon as they approach the corner from which they begin to lay the cord, namely, a distance of approximately 2 cm, the extrusion of the inner layer 4 of plastics is stopped . This inner cord quickly narrows almost to its absence and in this case only the outer layer 3 is extruded. At the end of this last side of the glass sheet, the extrusion of the outer layer 3 is also stopped and the cord is cut. The second glass sheet is then applied to the first, the cord .2 in this case serves as an insert and adheres well enough to the two sheets in order to keep them connected during follow-up operations.
In this case, both ends 5 and b of the cord are joined by squeezing to form the last corner of the window glass with complete tightness, and the cords are made exclusively of sealed plastic that does not contain or contain a desiccant in a small amount.
In addition, it is possible and not to impose the inner layer 4 with a large proportion of dehumidifier in each of the four corners of the window glass. Thus, starting from the first angle, the extrusion of the inner layer 4 begins only after the extrusion of the outer layer 3, when the glass sheet is pushed forward a few centimeters with respect to the outlet of the extrusion hole. Almost along the entire length of its side, sheet 1 has a double cord and when the end of this side is approaching, not a few centimeters of income before it, stop the extrusion of the inner layer 4, while the outer layer 3 continues to be applied to the corner of the sheet. In the corner of the sheet, the extrusion of this outer layer is also stopped, the sheet is rotated 90 Q in order to substitute its next side under the exit extrusion hole, the extrusion of the outer layer is resumed and then, with a delay of several centimeters, the extrusion of the inner layer. Same
the process takes place in the next corner and so on.
The use of the proposed multilayer inspection with an intermediate cord will significantly improve the quality of its insulation and ease the complexity of the manufacturing process.
